Case Study 5: Balfour Road, East Sussex
Property type:Victorian terraced house
Project:Loft Conversion
Challenges:Undertaking a loft conversion of this scale is unusual and therefore provided lots of technical challenges that had to be overcome.
Overview:This was an unusual loft conversion as it utilised the space provided by a twin storey rear extension, thereby enabling a large ‘L’ shaped open plan dormer to be built. This was then divided into a bedroom and full size wet room en-suite bathroom. High levels of insulation were fitted throughout and Ideal Homes Magazine featured this project in their Summer Special issue.
Materials used:The flat roof covering was an ‘EPDM’ single ply membrane, which as well as being highly sustainable will long outlast its 30 year guarantee. High performance timber double glazed doors and windows were fitted, and the interiors were finished with FSC certified oak flooring and hand-made FSC certified birch plywood wardrobes.
